I got my phone stolen. Why do people steal and would you just take it passively or confront the issue?
I am extremely irritated and distraught. It was a Blackberry Curve and too expensive for me to just take it as a lost- I mean I worked really hard for it. Anyway, it happened on Thursday in my Astronomy class while I was taking a test. I know for a fact that it was someone in my class. I feel a little lost without it, even though I only really talk to a few people it means a lot for me to be connected to them at all time- like if they needed me I want to be there asap. The fact that it was someone in my class, I don’t know if I should address the class and be like "hey if you have a blackberry with a purple case please give it to the teacher and all will be forgiven" or something along those lines. I want it back but I know the chances of that happening are very low. My family has been going through a lot lately, my sister is living out of state for school with crazy roommates, my mother is not in the best of health, finances are causing a lot of stress (although I am thankful to have food and a roof over my head- especially considering that there are many families that have it worse than I) so I cannot afford to just buy a new phone- and its not like I would be satisfied going from a Blackberry to something significantly lesser.
I did not have any tracking gps installed and I did not have insurance. I know that was a mistake on my part because I did not ask for it- however if the sales rep reminded me I would have gotten it- but thats neither here nor there.
I know for a 100% fact that my phone was stolen in that class period. I was using my phone before class started so I know. I know in the future that I need to be more aware of my surroundings so no need for the badgering on those aspects. I just want to know if you were in these circumstances, how would you approach this situation. Should I confront the class, let the teacher know that there are "thieves in our midsts",lol. I guess I am not as sad and mad as I was, I just hate giving up on things. I’m very persistent

If you werent being sarcastic, I appreciate your advice. Definately not going to make that mistake again. I did it for my laptop but I definately know to do that for everything from now on.
I noticed it was gone right after class. I know it was stolen in that class because I was using it, as usual, right before class started. how should address the class?
Also, as soon as I realized it was stolen the first thing I did was call it and no one answered- of course (just my wishful thinking)lol. Then I had to deactivate the service. In 30 days if I dont get it back, I’ll either have to buy a new phone with a new SIM card or deactivate my phone line. Either way that’s $200 which is almost half of what my phone is worth. No matter what its going to cost me $$$ and I’m not satisfied in just taking a loss.

This is an after the fact comment and won’t help u with the current issue. But it’s somethin to think about…and for other people readin this to think about.

They make these little "lojack" things u can put in your expensive electronics. If u get your device stolen, u report it and they can locate your item by satellite or however they do it. Then the police nail whoever has the item in their possession. And u get your item back also.

Nothing wrong in addressing the class.
But before u do it. Be sure u know that was where it was stolen.
ou will look the fool if u find out a couple days later that it had fallen in the bottom of a bag u are carrying.
Try calling the phone and see what happens.

It may look nerdy, but keep in on your belt near your crotch because that is a sensitive area that people can feel sticky fingers!
